Being Better In The Future...
For me, problems have always given rise to three questions. The first two - ‘how do I fix it ? and ‘how do I stop it happening again ?’ - have always been a constant, but the question that has changed since my corporate days is the third one.
Back then, in the event of a problem I used to ask ‘whose fault is it?’, so that I could either divert attention if it was someone else’s, or come up with excuses if it was me.
But these days I simply ask myself ‘what could I have done better ?’
Asking how we could have done better doesn’t mean that we have to shoulder the blame, but it does mean that we can take responsibility for our part in whatever happened, and turn our attention to how we can be better in the future…
