Between Stimulus and Response
In this space, personal change is possible - for example, I know that a healthier lifestyle lies in the space between me craving a chocolate bar(the stimulus) and inhaling it in about 10 seconds (the response).
Obviously it’s not just healthy eating - anything we want to change (reading more, improving relationships, learning new skills) needs us to pause and take action between the idea (I will do X) and the negative response (but I don’t feel like it now, I’m not good enough, I just can’t, etc).
Fortunately, knowing that there is a space we can work with is the first step to learning how to use it positively...
