Building on strengths or improving weaknesses…?
There is an old British sitcom, ‘The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin’, where C.J., the CEO of the company Reggie worked for, used to say “I didn’t get where I am today by…”, before highlighting some trait or behaviour he had just witnessed in someone else.
But in many ways, we are all C.J. - what got us here was utilising our strengths, NOT repeating our weaknesses.
The question I find myself pondering these days, however, is whether achieving my biggest goals for the future will come from even greater development and use of my existing strengths, or working on those weaknesses, and seeing whether new strengths are waiting to emerge….
