My default expectation is that my beautifully crafted plan will go wrong, that my brilliant idea has a bus-sized hole in it, or that my exquisitely tuned timings are way off.

It’s not that I’m being overly negative - most things go pretty much to plan - it’s just that expecting there to be a problem means that I can make sure that I have an alternative plan to fall back on (or at least that I have opened my mind to the idea that I might need a Plan B).

We shouldn’t confuse an expectation of problems with an excuse for not getting started - after all, growth comes from overcoming challenges - but expecting our plans to be perfect is usually asking for trouble…
