A motivational quote to help us stop procrastinating and get on with the work we need to do.

Except that the problem is quotes like this don’t actually help move us any further forward - if we knew how to get started, we wouldn’t need motivational quotes…

What isn’t often shown is the second half of Twain’s quote :

“The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one.”

Much better. It still needs effort on our part (only we can ‘get started’ after all), but there is a useful idea we can use to move forward.

All too often we only scan the surface in search of a solution, but real progress needs deeper, harder work. And how do we do that harder, deeper work ? Well, it’s all about getting started…
