Layers of protection...
I’m sat here looking at a delivery from a supplier, and it is packaged so ‘robustly’ that if the planet had been hit by an asteroid overnight, survivors, thousands of years from now, would be able to open this package, and the contents would be undamaged.
I’m willing to bet that they, like me, had a few damaged deliveries in the dim and distant past, and so now, EVERY package is able to withstand a dinosaur-extinction-level event. I’m also willing to bet that the number of deliveries that actually NEED this level of packaging is tiny.
Every time something bad happens, we add another layer of protection. Maybe, once in a while, we need to peel a few of those layers back to see if they are actually needed at all…
