I’m currently reading The Shallows by Nicholas Carr, a book about how our brains are re-wired by our use of new technologies, and how every world-changing technology, from clocks and writing to the alphabet and printing press has had its champions and its detractors. Personally I love technology - I always have, ever since my first days in the school computer lab - and so I fall very much into the champions camp, believing that the benefits of the internet far outweigh negatives it can bring.
And that got me thinking - maybe the reason I love reading personal development books so much these days is that my view of learning is so much different to the one I held in my corporate days. I've needed glasses to read since I hit middle-age, but I realised this morning that maybe they’re not the only lenses through which I now read….
