The first thing I learned when I started to meditate is that our minds are filled with Thoughts, and that meditation is not learning how to silence those Thoughts, but instead learning how to observe that they are just that - Thoughts.
After a while, I came to see those Thoughts as a Voice - another me commenting on everything and anything, dredging up the past and unleashing my fears at any (and every) opportunity.
Recently I have come to realise that Thoughts and Voice suggest rationality and coherence, when in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. No, the best description is that it is all just Noise, random, perpetual, irritating Noise.
Calling it Noise doesn’t make it any quieter, but does make it easier to remember that Noise is rarely anything worth listening to….
