Reading is like a pair of glasses....

Ever since I hit middle age, my eyesight has started to deteriorate - I can still see long distances fine, but I need glasses to do close up things like reading.

And this morning it occurred to me that the reading itself is just like a pair of glasses - the more I read, the more things that were blurry and unrecognisable come into focus.

With each good book I read, the more clearly I can understand myself and the world around me, and with each great book I read, the more clearly I see my way forward, and, more importantly, how I could help others to move forward too.

If I gave up my glasses I wouldn’t be able to read, but if I gave up my reading, I wouldn’t be able to see…
