I like rules. I like the way that a rule I believe in makes following it simple, negating the hours of thought, justification and analysis that would otherwise take place.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t push or break the rules from time to time, but there has to be a good reason, and a belief that doing so will make things better.
So, when I want to change a habit, setting a clear, purposeful rule means that I don’t waste time and energy fighting against it.
