When I think of being ‘stuck in a rut’ I always imagine those hard, rocky tracks caused by waggon wheels - better to use than not, but they don’t make for a pleasant journey.

When I think of being ‘in the groove’ I think of those tracks for marbles - smooth and perfectly spaced, keeping the momentum flowing over the ups and downs - mesmerising to watch, epitomising poetry in motion.

Ruts and grooves can both make it easier to get from here to there, but sometimes it’s too easy to confuse one for the other…
