The Rules...
W. Somerset Maugham said that “there are three rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are”, but he could have just as easily have been talking about life, success, happiness, love or any other long-term goal we might have.
The thing is, if there were easy rules to follow then everyone would follow them and everything would be the same, when in fact, it’s the rule-breakers, the innovators, the creatives and the sheer bloody-minded ones who often make the biggest difference.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to follow the established rules, but maybe sometimes we need to make them up as we go along too…
