A Very Slippery Slope...
Last week I received a request for support that is outside of what I normally do, and since I was really busy at the time, the easiest thing to do was to say ‘sorry, but no’. But they needed help, and I pride myself on a set of core values that includes ‘Do The Right Thing’’, so I helped. After all, my core value says ‘Do The Right Thing’, and not ‘Do The Right Thing When It’s Easy To Do’….
Compromising our principles when it’s easy to justify is a very slippery slope, one that leads to bigger justifications and more uncomfortable compromises later on - a lesson I learned the hard way more times than I care to remember over the life of my corporate career…
