These days, when I buy my coffee at the drive-thru I try to strike up at least a brief conversation with the person on the other side of the glass. Recently I’ve found myself reaching out for Zoom calls with friends I haven’t spoken to in a while, to just catch up. Now I’m on first-name terms with most of the regular delivery and collection drivers who appear at our door.

Before, missing opportunities for connection was okay because there would be another one along in a minute.
