Resetting the habit counter...
Years ago I used to visit a Client’s manufacturing site, and outside, next to reception was a large electronic sign that proudly displayed the number of days without a significant accident, and over the years I visited that site, the number just got bigger and bigger - it was well into the thousands the last time I visited.
One day that number would get reset to zero (secretly I wished I was there that day, hoping to see a worker with a bandaged thumb walking forlornly past the sign) and while I’m sure that morale would take a temporary hit, I doubt that everyone would suddenly start having deliberate accidents because the pressure was off - the underlying reason was still powerful and important.
It’s the same for us - it’s wonderful to keep a positive streak going, but even if we slip up for a day, we just need pick ourselves up and start again, and see how high we can get the number this time….
