When I think of being stuck in a rut, I always imagine those hard, rocky tracks caused by waggon wheels - better to use than not, but they don’t make for a pleasant journey.

When I think of being in the groove I think of those tracks for marbles - smooth and perfectly spaced, keeping the momentum flowing over the ups and downs - mesmerising to watch, epitomising poetry in motion.

Ruts and grooves both make it easier to get from here to there, but I mention them because it is all too easy to confuse one for the other…
